CYNTHIA KOEHLER'S ISSUES
A Message
from Cynthia Koehler:

Just
18 months ago I was elected to the Marin Municipal Water
District Board of Directors. Because I was elected to a "short" seat,
filling out a term, I am up for re-election this coming November.
Marin
County has no shortage of water problems, and serving on the
Board has been an enormously productive and challenging experience.
I am running for re-election to continue with the excellent progress
we have made to date.
|
As I promised in the 2004
campaign, promoting water conservation and solid environmental
stewardship has been my primary focus. In addition, I have been
building relationships within the District, with the County, with
local governments and with our sister water agencies to promote
these objectives regionally.
I
am pleased to report a number of my accomplishments during my brief
tenure on the Board: |
- Worked to update and elevate MMWD's conservation programs,
and hire a new Conservation Manager for the District.
- Led efforts to restructure MMWD's education and outreach
efforts to inform the public about conservation opportunities
and drought issues.
- Ensured that environmental review of any potential desalination
project will include full-scale consideration of a water conservation
alternative.
- Served on the Bay Area Water Forum Task Force.
- Appointed to the Federal Affairs Committee of the Association
of California Water Agencies.
- Elected Vice President of the MMWD Board.
My goals for the next year and during my text term include:
- Ensuring high levels of public participation as review
of desalination options proceed.
- Launching new rebate programs to encourage ratepayers
to install the new generation of water saving technology indoor
and outdoors.
- Seeing through to completion my proposal to implement
a pilot water conservation and education program with local
schools.
- Completing my initiative to launch water wise demonstration
gardens throughout the District to educate the public about
the beauty as well as utility of low water use gardens.
- Continue efforts to ensure fiscal responsibility in District
operations.
Few things are more important to our community than ensuring
that our drinking water is clean, safe, and reliable. After
dedicating 20 years as an environmental leader on water issues
in our region, I know how to bring diverse coalitions together
to get the job done. It has been an honor to serve you for
the last 18 months.
I would be honored to have your vote this November.
Sincerely,
Cynthia Koehler
Vice President
MMWD Board of Directors
